What is Practical Christianity?

Welcome to Our Practical Christianity Web SitePlaceholder for about us

Our Web site serves as an extension of our church family, and we pray that you and your family will find what so many of us have found at Unity Church of Las Vegas—a loving and exciting spiritual home, guided by Practical Christianity.

We are a sacred place where any and all can become an integral element of a loving, non-judgmental, spirit-filled community. Unity offers support and guidance to begin, grow and continue your spiritual enfoldment in the loving way of Christ. Ours is not a “one-fits-all spiritual program.

Being a spiritual organization, we continually strive to find new ways to spread our message to current and prospective members, as well as those whose only access is the Internet. Therefore, our Web site not only allows us to reach people outside our immediate purview, but it also allows us to grow in what we offer.

Please use our site to access information about Unity and as a resource for broadening your faith by applying our Practical Christianity teachings to your everyday life.

We look forward to hearing from you and answering any questions you may have.

The Practices of Jesus’ Teaching

As a church of Practical Christianity, we are not intent on converting people from a religion that brings them comfort. We regard ourselves more as a spirituality of attraction rather than a religion of conversion. If you are looking for a spiritual practice that bears fruit and actually serves to transform your life, you will be attracted to this unique teaching.

Also, salvation is found in the practice of certain principles Jesus taught that still apply today. He told us that the kingdom of God is found within us. That means we don't have to die to go to heaven. We create heaven on earth and take that consciousness with us on all levels of living.

Therefore, if you are seeking more than a simple Sunday attendance, and want an ongoing practice, Practical Christianity is the ideal approach for you to Jesus Christ’s teachings.

Practical Christianity Beliefs

At Unity Church of Las Vegas we believe, teach and endeavor to perform our Practical Christianity spiritual principles in our daily lives:

  1. TestimonyThat we live and move and have our being in God as Divine Love.
  2. That God is with us and within us as the loving Presence of Christ.
  3. That our lives are transformed as we let go of our old selves, align our hearts
and minds with the message of Jesus, and develop a relationship with the Christ
    Presence.
  4. That we experience the Divine Presence through the practice of prayer, meditation,
    study and fellowship.
  5. The more we experience the Christ Presence, and are willing to express it in our lives, the
more Divine Love through us will bless our lives and the lives of others.
  6. TestimonyThat we seek to practice humility, compassion, authenticity, kindness, generosity and
respect for the Christ within each person in all our daily affairs.

We sincerely hope that you and your family will find what so many of us have found in Unity Church of Las Vegas: a loving and exciting spiritual home. This is a sacred place where each member of your family can become a part of a loving, non-judgmental, spirit-filled community.

You will find support for beginning, growing and continuing your spiritual enfoldment in the loving way of Christ.

Sundays with Practical Christianity…and You

By Rev. Guy Lynch

SundaysUnity Church of Las Vegas is a church of Practical Christianity, and our Sunday services have been described as more of a celebration of God and life than a worship service. The music is upbeat, beautiful and performed by our combo "One to the Third Power" and vocalists, led by the incomparable Richel Kompst. The energy of the church is always high as a result.  We actually call it a service of worth-ship.

Your Unity Experience

Our Sunday message begins as soon as you come in the door. Ushers don't just hand you a bulletin or help you find a seat, but they are consciously seeing God in you and instantly blessing you. Before the children are excused to their own Children's Church, we have a children's lesson in the sanctuary where I ask them questions and they provide rich spiritual wisdom in the wonderfully simple way that only children can. Be prepared for fun and laughter as they inevitably catch the congregation and this minister off guard.

I provide a scriptural lesson each week that takes into account the culture and circumstances of the time, symbology and then how it applies to today's world. The main body of my lesson expands on a theme to discover how we can use these God principles that Jesus taught to create heaven on earth through lives of great abundance, perfect health and wonderful loving relationships.

What’s Missing on Sundays?

The only thing that makes Sundays incomplete is if you are not there contributing your unique expression of God. Even as I say that, please understand that we are a spirituality of attraction and not a religion of conversion. When you are present with us, we call it Divine Order.

Why not join us this Sunday, have a cup of coffee and a cookie, relax and allow the Spirit of God to embrace you. You'll be glad you did.

Wednesdays with Practical Christianity … and You

WednesdayOur Wednesday night service is led by Associate Minister Rev. Charlotte Foust and is a less formal, more relaxed service from 7 to 8p.m. This is a healing, meditative service that will give you a mid-week spiritual tune up, calming your heart and mind, and reinvigorating your spirit. We invite you to take this opportunity to come back to your spiritual center in the middle of your busy week.

Special services are scheduled on Wednesday evening as well. Our communion service is held several times during the year and is an opportunity to celebrate our oneness with our Christ self. The healing service is a powerful opportunity to receive healing prayer for specific needs.

For those who are unable to attend Sunday services, Wednesday evening service is a place to share fellowship and spiritual nourishment with people of like mind and hear a message of hope, love and Practical Christianity that will comfort, inspire and challenge you to live your best life yet.

Music Ministry

Unity’s music ministry has been called vibrant, inspirational and pure magic that welcomes all who attend, lyrically supports the message and motivates congregants to sing its praises. And it is no stranger to standing ovations.

Michel KompstDirector of Music Ministry Richel Kompst leads the department, engaging talented veteran Las Vegas musicians to create a perfect marriage of music to the message for a wonderful Sunday experience.

“Rev. Guy and I collaborate weekly, working with talk title and Scripture for each unique service,” says Richel. “I am given an enormous amount of artistic freedom, and the bottom line for me is that the music serves the message.”

Richel’s band, ONE/3 (One to the 3rd Power) is a cohesive group that can tackle any music style from jazz to pop, Broadway to country to classical—all within the parameters of the music being spiritual, positive, thought-provoking and uplifting.

Unity Las Vegas is a home away from home for many traveling artists. Any given week may feature well-known, New Thought musicians such as Jana Stanfield, Kit Holmes, Christine Stevens and Faith Rivera.

Regular band members feature Robby Wingfield as arranger and pianist, Steve Kompst on bass and Matt Bennett and Gary Olds on drums. The marvelous vocal team includes Jillian Austin, Sandy Geier, Linda Addington and David Braxton. The savvy sound and lighting crew members include Cherice Wingfield, Oliver Kompst and Dave Braxton.

Richel’s message: “We are obviously very proud of this ministry and would love for you to join us on Sundays and Wednesdays so that we may share our music with you.”

Unity Youth

We Believe In Our Children

YouthOur youth activities promote our values and help build lifelong friendships.

Children are inherently precious and sacred. Having children in church with us is a blessing for all. It makes us all feel alive and connected to one another as a community.

Unity provides the excellent materials, guidance, and child-based learning experiences to help the children discover, through fun and fellowship and prayer, the life-giving teachings of Jesus, and the experience of the Christ Presence with them and within them.

Our children are taught that they matter in the world, and we teach them to let their light shine.

7 Unity Principles for Children

  1. God is Love and is active in everything—all around me and within me.
  2. God created me and put a spark of Divinity in me, the loving Christ Spirit—my essential goodness
  3. As I become aware of my limits, I turn to Christ within me and around me. I know I am loved and I am not alone—my life becomes better and better.
  4. As I express Christ’s Loving Presence through my thoughts, words and actions, each day my life and the lives of others around me are blessed.
  5. I become aware of Christ’s loving Presence by opening my heart through prayer, meditation, love and being loved by others.
  6. I do and give my best by living the truth I know. I try to be honest, loving, kind, compassionate and respectful of myself and others—I make a difference.
  7. The Christ Spirit fills me with joy, peace and love—I share this good news with others.

"What Practical Christianity Means to Me"

By Abbi Kompst, Age 11

Unity is many different things to many different people, but to me, Unity means family. It is a community where you can be yourself, and a place where everyone can be different, standout and be an individual.

Unity means family to me because it accepts everyone. From youngsters to adults, Unity has something to “give” to everyone:  a hug, a class or even a prayer.

Another reason Unity is a great family is because if you feel a little bit uncomfortable, there is always someone who walks up to you and makes you feel welcome. For example, when my family was new at Unity of Las Vegas, there was never a moment when I felt lonely or left out. That is why Unity is a great family.

Unity is a place where people that you just met become your best friend or even your “family.” For example, every summer at Youth Ministry, kids aged 9 and up have the opportunity to go to Unity Camp. It’s is a place where Unity kids from all over the Southwest go to the YMCA camp in California. It is just like our church except it is filled with kids. Every night before we go to bed we try to give as many “snuggies” (meaningful hugs) as we can. Many of the friends I meet there contact me throughout the school year, so when we go back the next year to Unity Camp, we have plenty of things to talk about.

There is not another church family I would rather go to. Unity is my home. Unity is my accepting, loving, caring, helping church family and I guarantee that will never change. Unity means family to me
